  • Progress and Updates by County – time to share:
    • Baltimore - Full implementation of CCSS in K-1 this year; 2nd grade next year; Investigations in K-2; 3-5 supported by transition resources; new leadership in various departments/levels; new superintendent initiatives, adding 55 staff development teachers (SDTs), new teacher evaluation - hiring resource teachers to support pd/implementation; <linkto: SLO samples>; no more mentors - replaced by Peer Assistance Review consulting teachers (PARs): (3 years) to teachers (2 years) to meet state responsibility to mentor new teachers, others; discussions about GT and responsive instruction.
    • Carroll - K-2 full implementation; PreK-8 full implementation next year; PD, resources, assessments developed by elementary mathematics experts; hybrid model in grade 3 supported by assessments, 4/5 State Curr. until Feb. (NOW) CCSS NF to prepare students for next school year, supported by teacher training (subs provided); 11 resources teachers to be added to next year's Superintendent's budget (Goal: math resource teacher in every elementary school);
    • Frederick - CCSS implementation: PreK-2 (next year is year 3) and 3-5 (year 2 next year); restructuring in curr. offices; HR, finance being restructured...; a few additional positions - content based tech PreK-12; school based elem. math leader program (Welcome Nick!) continues (admin. using creative funding processes and models [e.g., splitting time between classroom instruction and pd, data collection/analysis, other]; Chris and Jenny are full-time based on model co-developed with administrators); newly developed PD modules - designed to promote opportunities to address fluency, extend problem based learning, and address gaps (also include background info. and resources, including tasks, for teachers); looking for money to support grade 5 mathematics (80K) next year.
    • Howard - PreK-2 and above grade level 2nd graders in full implementation; 3-5 next year supported by current voluntary focus group of 35 teachers get access to materials and provide feedback; wikis for grades 3-6 are up and running <link to>; grades 3-5 assessments coming soon; adding 1 resource teacher and 3 Math Support Coaches (assigned to 4 schools each); new superintendent met with MSTs this past Wednesday hopes to put a math specialist in every building; quarter 4 - implementing transition units for grades 3-5 to address computational fluency and fractions and delivered through wikis
